About

Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District’s Office of Cable Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment (OCTFME) announced that the District government is premiering ‘Straight Crankin’: A Go Go Documentary on Monday, September 10th at the Historic Lincoln Theatre, 1215 U St. NW. The event will be free and open to the public and take place from 6 pm - 10 pm and celebrate the unique DC genre of Go Go music, its musicians and community. The event will feature red carpet arrivals, Go Go music, and attendance by some of DC’s top Go Go bands, promoters, and managers.

OFCTME began production on this endeavor in 2017 and has worked closely with a multitude of stakeholders in the Go Go community. Their stories have been captured and chronicled in this 90 minute feature, one of the first of its kind produced by OCTFME. The documentary charts the evolution of Go Go, the bands, their styles, and its history and impact over the past 40 years. The movie features interviews with members of Go Go Bands, promoters, producers, managers, and the entertainment industry and will premiere on the District of Columbia Network (DCN) in October of 2018.
